- City and market town in Sussex; 111 km/69 mi
- SW of London, near Chichester Harbour;
- population (1981) 24,000. It is the
- administrative headquarters of West Sussex.
- It was a Roman township, and the remains of
- the Roman palace built around AD 80 at nearby
- Fishbourne are unique outside Italy. There is
- a cathedral consecrated 1108, later much
- rebuilt and restored, and the Chichester
- Festival Theatre (1962).
